Calculating competition

31/07/2008 9:41:00 AM
MY electricity supplier has notified me its prices increased from July 1.

Thinking that I would take advantage of the much-lauded competition in the market, I rang the other suppliers who are allowed to sell electricity in my area.

After comparing the various schedules it seems there is no real competition the prices were the same.

I think the so-called competition in this industry is an illusion, created to justify privatising the assets that accumulated under public ownership.

We can sell electricity every day but we would only get to sell the assets once.
