VETERAN Broadmeadow Magic midfielder Benn Lane is a big-game player.
The 34-year-old enjoys a perfect record in six state league deciders.
It is a statistic he wants to keep intact when he runs out for his final match as a player in Sunday's state league grand final against Azzurri.
Lane stepped down from the state league after Magic's 2005 grand final, playing three years in lower divisions.
But this season the 34-year-old was tempted to have one last crack at the region's toughest competition.
"[Magic coach] Peter McGuinness asked me to play because they were short," Lane said.
"It's probably been the best year I've ever had team-wise and the success we've had. I've been part of some good grand final wins and some good teams, but as for what the team has achieved, we've pretty much won everything that's been set before us."
Lane won four straight grand finals from 1998 to 2001 with Hamilton Olympic, under Sunday's opposition coach, Greg Smith.
"This will be the seventh one [grand final] that I've played in and I've been fortunate enough to win every one I've played, and I'm hoping to keep that going," he said.
But Magic will have to do something only one team, Broadmeadow in 2005, have done in the past 15 years claim the minor and major premiership double.
"It's bit of a hoodoo, but it's all about the quality in your side," he said.
"I think the players this year are capable of dealing with any situation," he said.
